\textit{D. Dikranjan}, \textit{Ch. Milan} and \textit{A. Tonolo} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 197, 23--41 (2005; Zbl 1065.22003)] defined a Galois correspondence between subgroups of a topological abelian group \(G\) and subgroups of the group \(\widehat{G}^{\mathbb N}\). For \(\underline{u}=(u_n)\in\widehat{G}^{\mathbb N}\) and \(H\leq G\), define \(s_{\underline{u}}(G)=\{x\in G:u_n(x)\to0 \text{ in } {\mathbb T}\}\) and \({\mathfrak g}_G(H)=\bigcap\{s_{\underline u}(G):{\underline u}\in\widehat{G}^{\mathbb N}, H\leq s_{\underline u}(G)\}\). Then \(H\leq G\) is \textit{\(\mathfrak g\)-closed} in \(G\) if \({\mathfrak g}_G(H)=H\). In this paper, the author proves that every countable subgroup of a compact Hausdorff abelian topological group \(K\) is \(\mathfrak g\)-closed in \(K\), which is a positive solution for two problems in [\textit{D. Dikranjan}, \textit{Ch. Milan} and \textit{A. Tonolo}, op. cit.]. Furthermore, he shows the following: Every \(\mathfrak g\)-closed subgroup of a compact Hausdorff abelian group is realcompact. For an abelian topological group \(G\), the following statements are equivalent: (i) \(G\) is maximally almost periodic; (ii) every countable subgroup of \(G\) is \(\mathfrak g\)-closed; (iii) every cyclic subgroup of \(G\) is \(\mathfrak g\)-closed. The last result is a variant of the main result of [\textit{D. Dikranjan}, \textit{Ch. Milan} and \textit{A. Tonolo}, op. cit.].
