A main step in the study of the rational LS-category of a space has been the proof of the equality \(\mathrm{cat}_{0}(X\times S^n)=\mathrm{cat}_{0}(X)+1\) by \textit{K. P. Hess} [Topology 30, No. 2, 205--214 (1991; Zbl 0717.55014)]. Before this result, the first progress in this direction was the equality \(\mathrm{Mcat}_{0}(X\times S^n)=\mathrm{Mcat}_{0}(X)+1\) obtained by \textit{B. Jessup} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 317, No. 2, 655--660 (1990; Zbl 0691.55005)] for the invariant \({\mathrm Mcat}\) which is an approximation of \(\mathrm{cat}_{0}\). In the paper under review, the author proves the analogue of Jessup's result for the rational topological complexity.
