Let \(X\) be a topological vector space and let \((x_{n,k})_{n\geq k \geq 0}\) be a family of vectors in \(X\). The authors extend the theory of universal series in order to include sums of the form \(\sum_{k=0}^n a_k x_{n,k}\). The algebraic and topological genericity of such generalized universal series as well as the spaceability are discussed, and various examples are given which are not covered by the classical theory. In particular, the authors consider universal series involving Bernstein polynomials and they obtain a universal series version of MacLane's Theorem. Moreover, by exploiting the Bernstein-Walsh Theorem they extend recent results concerning universal Taylor series on simply connected domains.
