The purpose of this paper is to establish a perturbation theorem for exponentially bounded C-semigroups which allows us to treat perturbation theorems for exponentially bounded n-times integrated semigroups, semigroups of class \((C_ 0)\) and cosine families in a unified way. The motivation of our work is that \textit{H. Kellerman} and \textit{M. Hieber} [J. Funct. Anal. 84, 160-180 (1989; Zbl 0689.47014)] and \textit{F. Neubrander} [Semigroups Forum 38, 233-251 (1989; Zbl 0686.47038)] considered an interesting perturbation theorem for exponentially bounded n-times integrated semigroups, and the former applied this theorem to get a bounded perturbation theorem for cosine families and the latter used it to investigate complete second order problems for bounded linear operators. However, their results were restricted by the assumption that a perturbing operator is bounded on X. These reasons may lead us to investigate a Phillips-Miyadera type perturbation theorem for exponentially bounded n-times integrated semigroups. In this paper, as a more general and unified theory, we consider a Phillips-Miyadera type perturbation theorem for exponentially bounded C-semigroups and give examples which can not be treated in the concept of exponentially bounded n-times integrated semigroups but can be done by our perturbation theorem for exponentially bounded C-semigroups.
