The authors classify the centers and isochronous centers for a class of polynomial differential equations in \(\mathbb R^2\) of degree \(d\) that can be written as \[ \dot z=iz+(z\bar z)^{\frac{d-4}{2}}(Az^3\bar z+Bz^2{\bar z}^2+C{\bar z}^4),\tag{1} \] where \(z = x + iy,\) \(d \geq4\) is an even, positive integer, and \(A, B, C\in\mathbb C\). The main results are as follows. Theorem 1. For \(d\geq 4\) even the following statements hold for system (1). {\parindent9mm \begin{itemize}\item[(a)] It has a center at the origin if and only if one of the following two conditions holds. \item[(a.1)] \(3A + 2\bar B = 0\), \item[(a.2)] \(\Im(AB) = \Im(A^5 C) = \Im({\bar B}^ 5 C) = 0\). \item[(b)] It has an isochronous center at the origin if and only if one of the following two conditions holds. \item[(b.1)] \(C = 0, B = \bar A\), \item[(b.2)] \(C = 0, B = (d - 2)\bar A/d\). \end{itemize}} For \(d = 4\), the authors obtain a special case of quartic polynomial systems which have a center at the origin.
