      Consider the Jacobi differential operator \(L=(1-x^2)D^2+((\beta - \alpha )-(\alpha + \beta + 2)x)D\), with \(\alpha \geq -1/2\), \(\beta \geq -1/2\) and \(D=d/dx\). Let \(f\in C^{\infty}[-1,1]\), \(f(x)=\)\({\sum}_{n=0}^{\infty}C_np_n^{(\alpha,\beta)}(x)\), with \(p_n^{(\alpha,\beta)}(x)\) normalized Jacobi polynomials and the coefficients \(C_n\) decrease sufficiently fast. Define \(L^k=L(L^{k-1})\), \(k\geq 2\). Let \(\rho >1\). If the number of sign changes of \((L^kf)(x)\) in \((-1,1)\) is \(O(k^{1/(\rho + 1)})\), then \(f\) extends to be entire and satisfy \[ |f(z)|\leq A\exp(B(\ln|z|)^{\rho/(\rho + 1)}) \] for some constants \(A\) and \(B\) and for all \(|z|\) sufficiently large. For Legendre expansions, the result holds with \(1/(\rho + 1)\) replaced with \(1/\rho\).
