Let \(G(\lambda)\) be a general \(p\times m\) rational matrix function with real or complex coefficients in the variable \(\lambda\), and let \(\Omega\) be a fixed set. A collection of eight rational matrix functions \((M(\lambda), N(\lambda), \widetilde{M}(\lambda), \widetilde{N}(\lambda), X(\lambda), Y(\lambda), \widetilde{X}(\lambda), \widetilde{Y}(\lambda))\) having all poles in \(\Omega\) is called a doubly coprime factorization of \(G(\lambda)\) if \(M(\lambda)\) and \(\widetilde{M}(\lambda)\) are invertible and satisfy \(G(\lambda)=N(\lambda)M^{-1}(\lambda)=\widetilde{M}^{-1}(\lambda) \widetilde{N}(\lambda)\), \[ \left[\begin{matrix} \widetilde{Y}(\lambda) & \widetilde{X}(\lambda)\\ -\widetilde{N}(\lambda) & \widetilde{M}(\lambda) \end{matrix}\right] \left[\begin{matrix} M(\lambda) & -X(\lambda)\\ N(\lambda) & Y(\lambda)\end{matrix}\right]=I_{m+p}. \] The authors determine the class of all doubly coprime factorizations of \(G(\lambda)\) over \(\Omega\), where \(G(\lambda)\) is a general rational matrix function and \(\Omega\) is an arbitrary fixed set in \(\overline{\mathbb{C}}\). The main result is expressed in terms of a special type of realization, called centered. The paper also contains discussions of the background and of applications.
