Let \(R\) be a fixed integral domain. Weak-injective \(R\)-modules \(M\) have been defined as modules satisfying \(\mathrm{Ext}_{R}^{1}(W,M)=0\) for all \(R\)-modules \(W\) of weak dimension \(\leq 1\) [\textit{S. B. Lee}, Comm. Algebra 34, 361--370 (2006; Zbl 1094.13012)] and it was shown that \(h\)-divisible pure-injective \(R\)-modules are always weak-injective. The converse is shown to be equivalent to another open question: ``Are all torsion-free Enochs-cotorsion modules pure-injective?'' These questions are answered in the negative by showing that, over an almost perfect domain \(R\) that is not Dedekind, there exist weak-injective modules that fail to be pure-injective. In the next section, weak-injective envelopes are considered. A close connection, via a commutative diagram with exact rows and columns, is shown between flat covers and envelopes. A similar close relationship between \(F_{1}\)-covers (weak dimension covers) and Enochs-cotorsion envelopes is proved.
