This paper concerns the Cauchy problem for a neutral functional differential equation with delay in a Banach space \(X\) \[ \frac{du}{dt}[x(t)-G(x_t)]=A[x(t)-G(x_t)]+F(x_t) \;\;(t\geq 0), \quad x_0=\varphi\in \mathcal{B}, \] where \(A\) is a Hille-Yosida operator on \(X\), \(\mathcal{B}\) is a phase space satisfying some axioms, \(G\) and \(F\) are continuous functions from \(\mathcal{B}\) to \(X\). There are many known definitions and results in the paper. For more related arguments of treating the item with elements in the phase spaces, see, e.g. [\textit{J. Liang} and \textit{T.-J.
