Langlands classification for L-parameters

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: Let F be a non-archimedean local field and the group of F-rational points of a connected reductive F-group. Then we have the Langlands classification of complex irreducible admissible representations pi of G in terms of triples (P,sigma,u) where PsubsetG is a standard F-parabolic subgroup, sigma is an irreducible tempered representation of the standard Levi-group MP and uinBbbRotimesX∗(MP) is regular with respect to P. Now we consider Langlands' L-parameters [phi] which conjecturally will serve as a system of parameters for the representations pi and which are (roughly speaking) equivalence classes of representations phi of the absolute Galois group Gamma=extGal(overlineF|F) with image in Langlands' L-group ,LG, and we classify the possible [phi] in terms of triples (P,[,tphi],u) where the data (P,u) are the same as in the Langlands classification of representations and where [,tphi] is a tempered L-parameter of MP.

Let \(F\) be a locally compact nonarchimedean field, let \(G\) be the group of \(F\)-rational points of a connected reductive \(F\)-group, and let \(\Gamma = Gal(\overline{F} | F)\) be the absolute Galois group, where \(\overline{F}\) is a separable algebraic closure of \(F.\) For a Levi subgroup \(M\) of \(G,\) let \(X^{*}(M)\) be the group of rational characters over \(F.\) An \(L\)-parameter \([\phi]\) of \(G\) is an equivalence class of \(L\)-homomor\-phisms \(\phi\) from \(\Gamma\) to the Langlands \(L\)-group \({}^{L}G.\) In the paper under review, a classification is established of \(L\)-parameters \([\phi]\) of \(G\) in terms of the standard triples \((P,[{}^{b}\phi],\nu),\) where \(P\) is the group of \(F\)-points of a standard \(F\)-parabolic subgroup of \(G,\) \([{}^{b}\phi]\) is a bounded \(L\)-parameter of the standard Levi-group \(M_{P},\) and \(\nu \in \mathbb{R} \otimes X^{*}(M_{P})\) is regular and positive with respect to \(P.\) Assuming the local Langlands conjecture for tempered representations and combining the Langlands classification for representations and for \(L\)-parameters, the authors also obtain an extension of the Langlands correspondence from tempered to non-tempered representations and a Langlands classification for \(L\)-packets.
