On sampled data variable structure control systems
The authors show that the motion of the states of the sampled-data variable structure control systems can be divided into three phases: reaching phase, switching phase and chattering phase. In the reaching phase, the system states are forced to reach the prescribed switching surface. Once hitting the switching surface, the system will move along the switch surface towards the equilibrium point, and this constitutes the switching phase during which the switching control ensures robustness. The chattering phase is related to the behaviour of the system when its states reach a neighbourhood of the equilibrium whose size depends on the sampling rate, coefficients of switching function, and the controller gain. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the correctness of the analysis of the characteristics of the three phases. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0922.00035].
