Variable structure control for sampled-data systems
First, a linear time-invariant continuous-time single-input control system is considered. A sliding sector is defined as a subset of the state space where a suitable \(P\)-norm of the state decreases when there is no control action. An algorithm for designing a sliding sector (for any controllable plant) is proposed by using the Riccati equation. Corresponding to this sector, a continuous-time control law is designed to move the system from the outside to the inside of the sliding sector and to guarantee that the \(P\)-norm is decreasing at any state. Similarly, a sliding sector for a discrete-time system is defined. It is proved that such sliding sector for a sampled-data system exists and the corresponding discrete-time controller stabilizes the system for a suitable choice of the sampling interval and the feedback coefficient. A rotational inverted pendulum system is taken as a simulation model and some numerical results are presented. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0901.00020].
