Mass and extremals associated with the Hardy-Schrödinger operator on hyperbolic space

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: We consider the Hardy-Schr"odinger operator −DeltamathbbBn−gammaV2 on the Poincar'e ball model of the Hyperbolic space mathbbBn (ngeq3). Here V2 is a well chosen radially symmetric potential, which behaves like the Hardy potential around its singularity at 0, i.e., V2(r)simfrac1r2. Just like in the Euclidean setting, the operator −DeltamathbbBn−gammaV2 is positive definite whenever gamma<frac(n−2)24, in which case we exhibit explicit solutions for the equation -Delta_{mathbb{B}^n}u-gamma{V_2}u=V_{2^*(s)}u^{2^*(s)-1}quad{ ext{ in }}mathbb{B}^n, where 0leqs<2, 2∗(s)=frac2(n−s)n−2, and V2∗(s) is a weight that behaves like frac1rs around 0. The same equation, on bounded domains Omega of mathbbBn containing 0 but not touching the hyperbolic boundary, has positive solutions if 0<gammaleqfrac(n−2)24−frac14. However, if frac(n−2)24−frac14<gamma<frac(n−2)24, the existence of solutions requires the positivity of the "hyperbolic Hardy mass" mmathbbBn(Omega) of the domain, a notion that we introduce and analyse therein.

The Hardy-Schrödinger operator \(L_\gamma=-\Delta_{\mathbb{B}^n}-\gamma V_2\) is considered on the Poincaré ball model of the hyperbolic space \(\mathbb{B}^n\) with \(n\geq 3\). More precisely, the Euclidean unit ball \(B_1(0)=\{x\in \mathbb{R}^n:|x|<1\}\) endowed with the metric \[ g_{\mathbb{B}^n}=\left(\frac{2}{1-|x|^2}\right)^2g_{\text{Eucl}} \] is considered. Here, \(V_2\) is a given radial symmetric potential which is assumed to behave like the Hardy potential around its singularity at the origin; that is, \(V_2(r)\sim 1/r^2\). It is shown that \(L_\gamma\) is positive definite whenever \(\gamma<(n-2)^2/4\). In this case, the authors establish explicit solutions for the critical equation \[ L_\gamma u=V_{2^\ast(s)}u^{2^\ast(s)-1} \] in \(\mathbb{B}^n\) with \(0\leq s<2\), \(2^\ast(s)=2(n-2)/(n-2)\), and \(V_{2^\ast(s)}\) is a weight that behaves like \(1/r^s\) around the origin. The authors establish a ground state solution for \(n\geq 5\) for the equation \[ L_\gamma u-\lambda u=V_{2^\ast(s)}u^{2^\ast(s)-1} \] in a domain \(\Omega\) of \(\mathbb{B}^n\) away from the boundary that contains the origin assuming \(0<\gamma\leq n(n-4)/4\) and \(\lambda>\frac{n-2}{n-4}\left(n(n-4)/4-\gamma\right)\). For the special case \(n=3\) and \(n=4\), the authors show the existence of solutions under the assumption that the domain under consideration has a positive hyperbolic mass.
