Universal objects in some classes of Clifford topological inverse semigroups
In the paper under review the question is studied of the existence of universal objects in the following sense: Let \(k\) be an infinite cardinal number. Under which algebraic conditions on a given class \(\mathcal K\) of compact semigroups there exists \(S\in\mathcal K\) of weight \(\leq k\) such that every \(S^\prime\in\mathcal K\) of weight \(\leq k\) is isomorphic to a subsemigroup of \(S\)? In the first part of the paper a short survey is presented of universal objects in the classes of Tychonov spaces, compact spaces, compact Lawson semilattices, compact groups. It is proved that universal objects exist in various classes of compact semigroups close to compact groups including: (i) compact Clifford inverse semigroups with Lawson maximal semilattices; (ii) compact Abelian inverse semigroups with Lawson maximal semilattices; (iii) compact Boolean inverse semigroups with maximal Lawson semilattices.
