Abstract: Let Ek be the normalized Eisenstein series of weight k on mathrmSL2(mathbbZ). Let varphik be the polynomial that encodes the j-invariants of non-elliptic zeros of Ek. In 2001, Gekeler observed that the polynomials varphik seem to be irreducible (and verified this claim for kleq446). We show that varphik is irreducible for infinitely many k.

Let \[ E_{k}(z):=1-\frac{2k}{B_{k}}\sum_{n=1}^{\infty }\sigma _{k-1}(n)e^{2\pi inz} \] be the normalized Eisenstein series of weight \(k\) on SL\(_{2}(\mathbb{Z})\) and let \[ \varphi _{k}(X):=\prod\limits_{E_{k}(z)=0}(X-j(z)) \] be the polynomial that encodes the \(j\)-invariants of nonelliptic zeros of \( E_{k}\) such that \(j(z)\neq 0,1728\). \textit{E.-U. Gekeler} [Arch. Math. 77, No. 1, 5--21 (2001; Zbl 0994.11019)] proved that the polynomials \(\varphi _{k}\) seem to be irreducible (and verified this claim for \(k\leq 446)\), but in this work the author proves that \(\varphi _{k}\) is irreducible for infinitely many \(k\).
