Let \(A\) be a complex \(n\times n\) matrix whose eigenvalues lie in the disc \( |z|<r\), and let \(M(z)\) be a polynomial of degree \(d\) such that \(f(A)=0\). If \( f(z)\) is a power series which converges in \(|z|<r\), then by general interpolation theory there is a polynomial \(P(t)\) of degree less than \(d\) such that \( f(z)-P(z)=M(z)q(z)\) for some series \(q(z)\) converging in \(|z|\leq r\). Then \( P(tA)=f(tA)\) for all \(t\) in the disc \(|t|<1\).\N\NThe authors use this idea to compute closed form expressions for the coefficients of \(P(z)\) where \(f(z) \) is the principal branch of \(\log (1+z)^{k}\) and where \(f(A)\ \)is an expression for powers of the Drazin inverse \(A_{D}\) of \(A\).
