Shifted coisotropic structures for differentiable stacks

From MaRDI portal

Symplectic and Poisson geometry are well studied by physicists in order to understand physical systems. In symplectic geometry, initial constraints correspond to Lagrangian submanifolds. In Poisson geometry, the analogue are coisotropic submanifolds. \N\NIn the presence of symmetries, it is not always the case that the space of orbits of the group action gives a manifold; in this way, one naturally ends up with the notion of a (differentiable) 1-stack, that is, an object that presents a manifold with extra symmetries. One way to define 1-stack is with Lie groupoids up to a weaker notion of equivalence called Morita equivalence of Lie groupoids (see [\textit{K. Behrend} and \textit{P. Xu}, C. R., Math., Acad. Sci. Paris 336, No. 2, 163--168 (2003; Zbl 1039.58016)]). \N\NIn the derived algebraic setting, symplectic and Poisson structures have been defined in general for any higher stack in \N[\textit{T. Pantev} et al., Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 117, 271--328 (2013; Zbl 1328.14027); \N\textit{D. Calaque} et al., J. Topol. 10, No. 2, 483--584 (2017; Zbl 1428.14006); \N\textit{J. P. Pridham}, J. Topol. 10, No. 1, 178--210 (2017; Zbl 1401.14017)]. \NCoisotropic structures have been generalized as well in \N[\textit{V. Melani} and \textit{P. Safronov}, Sel. Math., New Ser. 24, No. 4, 3061--3118 (2018; Zbl 1461.14006); \NSel. Math., New Ser. 24, No. 4, 3119--3173 (2018; Zbl 1440.14004)]. \NThose generalizations give abstract and powerful existence result for classical symplectic and Poisson structures, one of them is done through a process called coisotropic intersection. If \(C_1, C_2 \rightarrow X\) are two \(n\)-shifted coisotropic morphisms in an \(n\)-shifted Poisson stack \(X\), then the intersection \(C_1\times_X C_2\) has a natural \((n-1)\)-shifted Poisson structure.\N\NIn differential geometry, it is known from the work of \textit{M. Cueca} and \textit{C. Zhu} [Adv. Math. 413, Article ID 108829, 64 p. (2023; Zbl 1510.53094)] that the Lie groupoid analog of 1-shifted symplectic structures is given by quasi-symplectic groupoids. In this article, the author proposes a Lie groupoid analogue of the notion of 1-shifted coisotropic morphisms into a quasi-symplectic groupoid using Dirac structures. He proves that the (homotopy) intersection of 1-shifted coisotropic morphisms has a natural 0-shifted Poisson structure. Under nice assumptions he proves that, when the intersection is a manifold, one gets a Poisson structure. As a special case of this, the author proves that Hamiltonian reductions of quasi-symplectic groupoids has a natural 0-shifted Poisson structure (because it is a special case of a 1-shifted coisotropic intersection), generalizing Dirac reduction. He also provides transfer along Morita equivalence, proving that the notion does not depend on a Lie groupoid presentation of a differentiable 1-stack and providing a definition for 1-stacks.
