Skew parallelogram nets and universal factorization

From MaRDI portal

The article deals with skew parallelogram nets over quaternions which encompass discrete Lund-Regge systems, constant mean curvature nets and, via Bäcklund transformations of curves, a discrete Hashimoto flow. Scope of the paper is limited to discrete differential geometry, within which authors studied curves in Euclidean space that stay invariant under a sequence of such Bäcklund transformations. The authors applied factorization to prove the converse, moreover, they provided an algorithm for the construction of invariant curves for any number of Bäcklund transformations. They also provided a description for cross-ratio systems in terms of skew parallelogram nets and showen how they give rise to different types of constant curvature surfaces. In particular, they found asymptotic K-nets as a natural reduction while more complex surfaces like constant mean curvature nets and circular K-nets arise as slices in a 4D lattice. There are also investigated two reductions of 4D cross-ratio systems which correspond to these surfaces and shown how to recover them from 2D cross-ratio systems which discretize holomorphic data. As an application of this method, authors constructed a lattice of breather transformations of a surface. Authors also devised an approach to studying systems in more general algebras, in particular, they shown how skew parallelogram nets are equivalent to Moutard nets in different ways and how this can be used to define an associated family.
