A block can be thought of as an equivalence class of irreducible representations of an algebraic monoid [\textit{M. S. Putcha}, ``Linear algebraic semigroups'', Lond. Math. Soc. Lect. Note Ser. 133 (1988; Zbl 0647.20066)]. The blocks of \(M_n(k)\) were first determined by \textit{I. Schur} for \(k=\mathbb{C}\) [Gesammelte Abhandlungen I, 1-70 (1973; Zbl 0274.01054)]. Let \(M\) be an irreducible algebraic monoid over the algebraically closed field \(k\), \(G\) be its unit group, and \(Z(M)\) be the scheme-theoretic center of \(M\). An irreducible monoid \(M\) is called polarizable if \(M\) has a zero 0 with \(0\in\overline{Z(M)}\). A monoid \(M\) is polarizable if and only if there exists a one-parameter subgroup \(\theta\colon k^*\to Z(G)\) such that \(0\in\overline{\theta(k^*)}\). A morphism \(\varphi\colon M\to N\) of algebraic polarized monoids \((M,\theta)\) and \((N,\Phi)\) is called \(\theta\)-morphism if \(\theta(0)=0\) and \(\varphi(\text{Im }\theta)\subseteq\text{Im }\Phi\). The \(\theta\)-degree of a \(\theta\)-morphism \(\varphi\) is \(n\) if \(\varphi(\theta(\alpha))=\Phi(\alpha^n)\). It is proved that for a polarized monoid \((M,\theta)\) with solvable unit group \(G\) there exists a canonical one-to-one correspondence \{blocks of \(M\) of \(\theta\)-degree \(r\}\leftrightarrow\{\)characters of \(Z(M)\) of \(\theta\)-degree \(r\}\). These results are illustrated with two examples.
