In this paper, the authors introduce and study the notion of complete intersection \(\operatorname{Hom}\) injective dimension of a module (a complex) over a local ring. This invariant, which is sandwiched between Gorenstein injective dimenstion and injective dimension, is essentially an injective version of the complete intersection dimension introduced by Avramov, Gasharov, and Peeva. In the paper, the authors show that the new invariant shares many of the nice properties of the classical homological dimensions. For example, a local ring is a formal complete intersection if and only if the residue field, equivalently every module over the ring, has finite complete intersection \(\operatorname{Hom}\) injective dimension. Also, a local ring that admits a finitely generated module of finite complete intersection \(\operatorname{Hom}\) injective dimension is Cohen-Macaulay.
