Let \(\mu\) be a finite Borel measure with compact and infinite support in \(\mathbb{C}\). The Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization procedure applied to the sequence of polynomials \(\{z^n : n \in \mathbb{N}_0\} \subset L^2(\mathbb{C}, \mu)\) yields a family of orthogonal polynomials \(\{\phi_n (z;\mu) : n\in \mathbb{N}_0\}\). By a normalization one can always achieve that the leading coefficient of \(\phi_n(z; \mu)\) is one. The sequence of the resulting monic polynomials is denoted by \(\{\Phi_n(z;\mu) : n\in \mathbb{N}_0\}\). The authors investigate the asymptotic behaviour of \(\Phi_n(z;\mu)\) as \(n\to\infty\) in the case the measure \(\mu\) is supported on the closure of an analytic domain in \(\mathbb{C}\). Necessary conditions for Szegö strong asymptotics to hold are presented. It is also shown that the asymptotic behaviour is not changed when \(\mu\) is multiplied by a rational function or when point masses are added to \(\mu\).
