\textit{L. Gao} [Acta Math. Sci., Ser. B, Engl. Ed. 37, No. 1, 187--194 (2017; Zbl 1389.34284)] proved that if the system of differential-difference equations \(f_1'(z)^2 + f_2(z+c)^2 = Q_1(z)\) and \(f'{_2}(z)^2 + {f_1(z + c)}^2 = Q{_2}(z)\) have entire solutions of finite order, then \({Q_1}(z) = c_{11}c_{12}\), \({Q_2}(z) = c_{21}c_{22}\) and \(2af_1(z) = {c_{11}}e^{az + b_1} - {c_{12}}e^{-az - b_1}\), \(2af_2(z) = {c_{21}}e^{az + b_2} - {c_{22}}e^{-az - b_2}\), where \(a, b_1, b_2, c_{kj}\) are constants with \(a^{4} = 1\) and \(c_{kj} \neq 0\). In the paper the authors generalize the result of Gao to the system \({{f_1^{(k)}}(z)}^2 + {{f_2}(qz + c)}^2 = {Q_1}(z)\) and \({{f_2^{(k)}}(z)}^2 + {{f_1}(qz + c)}^2 = {Q_2}(z)\). Several examples are provided in support of the main result of the paper.
