A hybrid dynamical system is represented here by a collection of continuous time systems and some rule of switching among them. The hybrid system is modelled by a Petri net and a metric state space is introduced. The Liapunov stability conditions require the Liapunov function to be nonincreasing along the sequence of switchings. Two engineering examples are given.
