Super-exponential condensation without exact overlaps

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: We exhibit self-similar sets on the line which are not exponentially separated and do not generate any exact overlaps. Our result shows that the exponential separation, introduced by Hochman in his groundbreaking theorem on the dimension of self-similar sets, is too weak to describe the full theory.

In the paper under review, the authors exhibit self-similar sets on the line which are not exponentially separated and do not generate any exact overlaps. The main result shows that the exponential separation, introduced by \textit{M. Hochman} [Ann. Math. (2) 180, No. 2, 773--822 (2014; Zbl 1337.28015)] in his groundbreaking theorem on the dimension of self-similar sets is too weak to describe the full theory.
