The Cauchy problem for the wave equation with structural damping is considered. One investigates the diffusion phenomena for this wave equation. Actually this means to prove that its solution \(u(t ,x)\) behaves, for appropriate initial conditions, like the solution \(v^{+}\) to a diffusion equation. To achieve this, one proves, under some very specific assumptions, some \(L^{p}\)-\( L^{q}\) decay estimates for the difference \(u - v^{+}\). Further, still via \(L^{p}\)-\( L^{q}\) decay estimates it is proved that the difference of solutions \(u - v^{+}\), behaves like the solution \(v^{-} \) of a Cauchy problem for a similar -- as above -- diffusion equation with suitable initial conditions. This is known under the name of double diffusion phenomena.
