    The authors consider the nonlinear differential system of Emden-Fowler type \[ \begin{aligned} (p(t)\phi _{\alpha }(x'))' = \varphi (t)\phi _{\lambda }(y) ,\\ (q(t)\phi _{\beta }(y'))' = \psi (t)\phi _{\mu }(x),\end{aligned} \] where \(\phi _{\zeta }(u) = |u|^{\zeta } \mathrm{sgn }u\), with \(\zeta >0\) and \(p\), \(q\), \(\varphi \), \(\psi \) are positive continuous functions defined on \([a,\infty )\), \(a\geq 0\). It is assumed that the system is subhomogeneous i.e. that \(\alpha \beta > \lambda \mu \). A solution \((x,y)\) of the system decreasing to zero as \(t\rightarrow \infty \) is called strongly decreasing at \(\infty \) (whose set is denoted by SDS where \[ SDS := \{ (x,y)\in DS : \lim _{t\rightarrow \infty } x(t) = \lim _{t\rightarrow \infty } y(t) = \lim _{t\rightarrow \infty } x^{|1|}(t) = \lim _{t\rightarrow \infty } y^{|1|}(t) = 0 \} . \] Here \[ x^{|1|} = p\phi _{\alpha }(x') , \quad y^{|1|} = q\phi _{\beta }(y') . \] By assuming that the coefficients \(p\), \(q\), \(\varphi \), \(\psi \) are regularly varying in the sense of Karamata (whose indices satisfy some conditions), the authors prove the existence of SDS solutions and give the precise asymptotic behavior was \(t\rightarrow \infty \) for every such solution. Several examples to illustrate the main result and a comparison with existing literature complete the paper.
