The paper under review studies the Bogomolov type inequality for second Chern classes of Fano manifolds of Picard number \(1\). The main result says that if \(X\) is a Fano manifold of dimension at least \(7\) and of Picard number \(1\), consider \(H\) the fundamental divisor and \(i_X\) the index of \(X\), then \[ (c_2(X)\cdot H^{n-2})/(H^n)\geq \begin{cases} \frac{11n-16}{6n-6} & \text{ if } i_X=2;\\ \frac{i_X(i_X-1)}{2} & \text{ if } 3\leq i_X\leq n. \end{cases} \] As an application, this paper shows that if \(X\) is a Fano manifold of dimension \(n \geq 4\) and index \(n-3\), then \(h^0(X, H) \geq n-2\), where \(H\) is the fundamental divisor; and \(H^{2n-2}(X,\mathbb{Z})\) is generated by curves. Then this paper studies when \(|-mK_X|\) is free or gives a birational map for a weak Fano variety \(X\) with canonical Gorenstein singularites. This paper proves certain results for weak Fano variety \(X\) with canonical Gorenstein singularites of dimension up to \(4\), and \(n\)-dimensional Fano manifolds with index \(n-3\).
