Let \(X\) be a normal projective variety with mild singularities and let \(L\) be a big Weil divisor on \(X\). One of the main problems in the study of the rational map \(\Phi_m\) defined by the complete linear system \(|mL|\) is to determine a number \(m_0=m_0(n)\) depending only on \(n=\dim X\), which guarantees the birationality of \(\Phi_m\) for all \(m \geq m_0\). Many results in the literature are concerned with the cases in which \(L\) is nef and big and coincides with either a canonical or an anticanonical divisor, especially for \(n \leq 3\). Another relevant case is that of varieties \(X\) whose canonical divisors \(K_X\) are numerically trivial, \(L\) being an arbitrary nef and big Weil divisor. The paper under review deals exactly with this case, when \(X\) is a threefold with at worst \(\mathbb Q\)-factorial terminal singularities. In dimension \(3\), the birationality of \(\Phi_m\) was already established: 1) for \(m \geq 6\), when \(X\) is smooth, by \textit{S. Fukuda} [Tokyo J. Math. 14, No. 2, 479--487 (1991; Zbl 0761.14001)], and 2) for \(m \geq 5\), assuming that \(X\) is Calabi-Yau with only Gorenstein terminal singularities, by \textit{K. Oguiso} and \textit{T. Peternell} [Math. Ann. 301, No. 2, 237--248 (1995; Zbl 0813.14029)]. The author considers the maps given by the two linear systems \(|mL|\) and \(|K_X+mL|\), whose behavior is a little different though they are numerically equivalent, and shows that both are birational for \(m \geq 17\). In fact, he looks more generally at triples \((X, L, T)\) where \(X\) is a minimal threefold with \(K_X \equiv 0\), \(L\) is any nef and big Weil divisor and \(T\) is a numerically trivial Weil divisor and proves that \(|K_X+mL+T|\) gives a birational map for all \(m \geq 17\). Moreover, the result remains unaffected replacing the nefness of \(L\) with the weaker condition that is has no stable base components.
