The paper under reviewed studies finite dimensional connected Hopf algebras over an algebraically closed field \(k\) of positive characteristic \(p\). The basic idea can be described as follows: Given two abelian restricted Lie algebras \(\mathfrak{h},\mathfrak{g}\) with dim\(\mathfrak{g}=1\), if we have an algebraic representation \(\rho:\mathfrak{g}\rightarrow \mathrm{End}_k(\mathfrak{h})\) then we can form the semiproduct \(T=\mathfrak{h}\rtimes \mathfrak{g}\). From this, we get the corresponding restricted enveloping algebra \(u(T)\). Take \(z\) to be a basis of \(\mathfrak{g}\). The question is whether can we deform \(u(T)\) slightly? Here ``slightly'' means: \(z^{p}-z^{[p]}+\Theta=0\) and \(\Delta(z)=z\otimes 1+1\otimes z+\chi\) for \(\Theta\in u(\mathfrak{h})^+, \;\chi\in (u(\mathfrak{h})^+)^{\otimes 2}\). Of course, if such a deformation is still a Hopf algebra then \(\Theta,\chi\) should satisfies some ``cohomology'' condition. Moreover, such deformation is called primitive deformation in this paper. For characteristic zero case, similar theory was already considered by \textit{D. G. Wang} et al. [J. Algebra 464, 36--96 (2016; Zbl 1402.16019)]. In some special cases, all deformations are primitive and such deformations can be determined completely. Actually, the authors establish such task for the case \(p^3\)-dimensional Hopf algebras in this paper.
