In $\mathrm{PG}(3, q)$ a \textit{Cameron-Liebler line class} $\mathcal{L}$ with parameter $x$ is a set of lines such that every spread of $\mathrm{PG}(3, q)$ contains exactly $x$ lines of $\mathcal{L}$. A Cameron-Liebler class with parameter $x$ has size $x(q^2+q+1)$ and the number of lines of $\mathcal{L}$ intersecting a given line $\ell$ depends on whether $\ell$ belongs to $\mathcal{L}$ or not. The set of lines through a point and the set of lines in a plane are examples of Cameron-Liebler line class with $x = 1$. Other values of $x$ for which there are trivial examples of Cameron-Liebler line classes are $x =2, q^2, q^2-1$. The union of the previous two examples, if the point is not in the plane, gives a Cameron-Liebler line class with $x=2$. In general, the complement of a Cameron-Liebler line class with parameter $x$ is a Cameron-Liebler line class with parameter $q^2+1-x$ and the union of two disjoint Cameron-Liebler line classes with parameters $x$ and $y$, respectively, is a Cameron-Liebler line class with parameter $x+y$. It was conjectured that no other examples of Cameron-Liebler line classes exist [\textit{P. J. Cameron} and \textit{R. A. Liebler}, Linear Algebra Appl. 46, 91--102 (1982; Zbl 0504.05015)]. In [Finite Fields Appl. 5, No. 1, 35--45 (1999; Zbl 0927.51012)], \textit{A. A. Bruen} and \textit{K. Drudge} showed that there are other examples, indeed they construct an infinite family of Cameron-Liebler line classes with parameter $x= (q^2+1)/2$. In this paper, the authors introduce a new derivation technique for Cameron-Liebler line classes with parameter $x= (q^2+1)/2$ and applying such a derivation to the Bruen-Drudge's example they construct a new family of Cameron-Liebler line classes with parameter $x= (q^2+1)/2$, $q\equiv 1\pmod{4}$, $q\ge 9$.
