This paper deals with the mixed Dirichlet-Neumann problem and the mixed-transmission problem for the following anisotropic Stokes system with variable viscosity tensor coefficient in a compressible framework \[ \mathbf{\mathcal L}(\mathbf{u},\pi)=\mathbf{f},\quad \operatorname{div}\mathbf{u}=g, \text{ in }\Omega.\tag{1} \] Here \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^n\) (\(n\geq 2\)) is a bounded Lipschitz domain with connected boundary, \[\mathbf{\mathcal L}(\mathbf{u},\pi):=\partial_{\alpha}(A^{\alpha\beta}\partial_\beta\mathbf{u})-\nabla \pi \] is a second order differential operator, and \(\mathbf{f}\), \(g\) are, respectively, a vector field and a scalar field in \(\Omega\). The coefficients \(A^{\alpha\beta}\) are \(n\times n\) matrix valued functions with bounded, measurable, real-valued entries \((a_{ij}^{\alpha\beta})\). The tensor coefficient is assumed to satisfy the following symmetry and ellipticity conditions: \[ \begin{array}{ll} (i)\ \ &a_{ij}^{\alpha\beta}=a_{\alpha j}^{i \beta}=a_{i\beta}^{\alpha j}, \text{ in }\Omega,\\ (ii) &\text{ there exists }C>0\text{ such that } a_{ij}^{\alpha\beta}\xi_{i\alpha}\xi_{j\beta}\geq C|\xi|^2, \text{ in }\Omega,\\ &\text{ for each symmetric matrix }\xi \in \mathbb{R}^{n\times n} \text{ with zero matrix trace}. \end{array} \] The authors prove, via variational methods, the well-posedness of the mixed Dirichlet-Neumann problem and the mixed-transmission problem for system (1). The well-posedness of the these problems for the anisotropic Navier-Stokes system \[ \mathbf{\mathcal L}(\mathbf{u},\pi)-(\mathbf{u}\cdot\nabla)\mathbf{u}=\mathbf{f},\operatorname{div}\,\mathbf{u}=g,\text{ in }\Omega. \] is also discussed. In this case, the existence and uniqueness of solutions is proved for \(n=2,3\) and small data. The proof is based on the Banach fixed point Theorem.
