    The author studies the Neumann initial-boundary problem for the chemotaxis system with a logistic source \begin{align*} u_t &=\Delta -\nabla \cdot (u\nabla v) +\kappa (|x|) u -\mu (|x|)u^p,\\ 0& = \Delta v -\frac{m(t)}{|\Omega|} +u , \quad m(t):=\int_\Omega u(\cdot, t) \end{align*} in a ball \(\Omega = B_R(0)\subset \mathbb{R}^2\), \(R>0\) for \(p\geqslant 1\) and sufficiently smooth functions \(\kappa, \mu :[0,R] \to [0,\infty)\). The first result states as follows that if \(\mu', -\kappa'\) are non-negative as well as \(\mu (s) \leqslant \mu_1 s^{2p-2}\) for all \(s\in [0,R]\) and some \(\mu_1\) positive, then for all \(m_0>8\pi\) there exists the initial data \(u_0\in C^0(\bar \Omega)\) with \(\int_\Omega u_0 =m_0\) such that a solution \((u,v)\) to the considered problem blows up in a finite time. The proof of this theorem relies on a transformation of the original system into a scalar equation, which was introduced in [\textit{W. Jäger} and \textit{S. Luckhaus}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 329, No. 2, 819--824 (1992; Zbl 0746.35002)] and used also in i.e. [\textit{T. Cieślak} and \textit{M. Winkler}, Nonlinearity 21, No. 5, 1057--1076 (2008; Zbl 1136.92006)], and [\textit{J. I. Tello} and \textit{M. Winkler}, Commun. Partial Differ. Equations 32, No. 6, 849--877 (2007; Zbl 1121.37068)]. The second result is connected to global solvability. The author shows that if \(p>2\), then for all \(\mu\) satisfying \(\mu(s) \geqslant \mu_1 s^{p-2-\varepsilon}\) for all \(s\in [0,R]\) and some \(\mu_1, \varepsilon\) positive the system has a global classical solution for each non-negative initial condition \(u_0 \in C^0(\bar \Omega)\). The proof, in this case, is based on a comparison principle for the scalar equation mentioned before. Similar reasoning can be found in [\textit{Y. Tao} and \textit{M. Winkler}, J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 19, No. 12, 3641--3678 (2017; Zbl 1406.35068)].
