\textit{J. Białkowski, K. Erdmann} and \textit{A. Skowroński} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 359, No. 6, 2625-2650 (2007; Zbl 1117.16005)] classified those indecomposable self-injective algebras for which the Nakayama shift of every (non-projective) simple module is isomorphic to its third syzygy. It turned out that these are precisely the deformations, in a suitable sense, of preprojective algebras associated to the simply laced \(ADE\) Dynkin diagrams and of another graph \(L_n\), which also occurs in the Happel-Preiser-Ringel classification of sub-additive but not additive functions [\textit{D. Happel, U. Preiser} and \textit{C. M. Ringel}, Lect. Notes Math. 832, 280-294 (1980; Zbl 0446.16032)]. In this paper under review, the authors try to classify preprojective algebras of type \(L\) up to derived equivalence and stable equivalence of Morita type. In fact, the authors only consider the case where the base field is of characteristic two, because \textit{J. Białkowski, K. Erdmann} and \textit{A. Skowroński} [J. Algebra 345, No. 1, 150-170 (2011; Zbl 1261.16014)] dealt with the case of characteristic not equal to two. Furthermore in characteristic two, it is sufficient to consider the preprojective algebra \(L_n^p\) of type \(L_n\) for \(p(X)=X^{2j}\) with \(j\in\{0,1,\dots,n-1\}\), which gives a complete classification up to Morita equivalence. The authors' main tool is Külshammer type invariants recently being popularized by a group of authors including the two authors of this paper. These invariants have their origin in the proof of the theorem of Richard Brauer which says that the number of simple modules (up to isomorphisms) of a group algebra is equal to the number of \(p\)-regular conjugacy classes of elements of \(G\), where \(p\) is the characteristic of the base field. Then \textit{B. Külshammer} considered these invariants as independent objects to study; see for example [Prog. Math. 95, 425-442 (1991; Zbl 0747.20002)]. Later several authors dealt with the question whether they are Morita equivalent or derived equivalent and found many applications; see the recent survey by the second author [Bull. Iran. Math. Soc. 37, No. 2, Part 2, 291-341 (2011; Zbl 1263.16014)]. In the paper under review, the authors compute the Külshammer spaces of preprojective algebras of type \(L\), for which they give precise formulae for their dimensions. As main application of their study of Külshammer spaces, they can distinguish many (but not all) deformations of the preprojective algebra of type \(L_n\) up to stable equivalence of Morita type, and hence also up to derived equivalence.
