Algebras of dihedral, semidihedral or quaternion type were defined by Erdmann, as a generalization of blocks of finite groups with dihedral, semidihedral or quaternion defect groups. Moreover, Erdmann also classified these algebras up to Morita equivalence. Making use of her results, Holm determined the derived equivalence classes of these algebras. In the present paper, the authors show which of these algebras are stably equivalent of Morita type. As in Holm's result, some delicate problems with parameters remain open. The authors show that each of the three classes (dihedral, semidihedral, quaternion type) is closed under stable equivalences of Morita type and that, in each of these classes, stable equivalences of Morita type preserve the number of non-projective simple modules.
