    The authors prove the subexponential estimate \[ |\{x\in Q;|\,[b,T]f(x)|>tM^2f(x)\}| \leq c\,e^{-\sqrt{\alpha t\,\|b\|_{\text{BMO}}}}\,|Q|,\quad t>0, \] where \(c,\alpha>0\) are absolute constants, \(T\) is a Calderón-Zygmund operator, \(M\) is the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function and \(f\) is an arbitrary measurable function supported on the cube \(Q\) in \(\mathbb R^n\), \(M^2f=M(Mf)\). They also obtain the estimate \[ |\{x\in Q; |f(x)-m_f(Q)|>t\, M^{\#}_{\lambda_n:Q}f(x)\}| \leq c\,e^{-\alpha t}\,|Q|,\quad t>0, \] where \(m_f(Q)\) denotes the median value of \(f\) in the cube \(Q\) (a number satisfying \(|\{x\in Q; f(x)>m_f(Q)\}|\leq|Q|/2\) and \(|\{x\in Q; f(x)<m_f(Q)\}|\leq|Q|/2\)) and \(M^{\#}_{\lambda_n:Q}f(x)\) is the Strömberg local sharp maximal function with \(\lambda_n=2^{-n-2}\). As a consequence they obtain the estimate of \textit{G. A. Karagulyan} [Math. Notes 71, No. 3, 362--373 (2002); translation from Mat. Zametki 71, No. 3, 398-411 (2002; Zbl 1044.42017)], \[ |\{x\in Q;|Tf(x)>t\,Mf(x)\}| \leq c\,e^{-c t}\,|Q|,\quad t>0, \] improving a result of \textit{S. M. Buckley} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 340, No. 1, 253--272 (1993; Zbl 0795.42011)]. Let us emphasize that the authors present here a new powerful approach based on a formula of \textit{A. K. Lerner} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 42, No. 5, 843--856 (2010; Zbl 1203.42023)]. Concerning the commutators the authors developed a new original method how to deal with this case.
