A polynomial ideal \(\mathcal{Q}\) is a subclass of the class of all continuous homogeneous polynomials \(\mathcal{P}(E,F)\) between Banach spaces \(E\) and \(F\) such that each component \(\mathcal{Q}(^{n}E,F)\), \(n\in\mathbb{N}\), of $n$-homogeneous polynomials is a vector subspace of \(\mathcal{P}(^{n}E,F)\) that is invariant under the composition with linear operators on the right and on the left and which contains the polynomials of finite type. In the present, very interesting paper, the authors develop this definition, aiming ``to bring the subject closer to its roots in Complex Analysis,'' by introducing the concept of \textit{polynomial two-sided ideal}, where the above composition is made by two polynomials instead of linear operators. The authors present some illustrative examples. Two methods to generate polynomial two-sided ideals are provided. In the last section, the classical composition polynomial ideals going back to \textit{A. Pietsch} [Forschungsergeb., Friedrich-Schiller-Univ. Jena 53, 16 p. (1983; Zbl 0561.47037)] are reviewed with regard to conditions on these to be two-sided ideals, and examples of such ideals are provided.
