A tensorial representation of an operator ideal is frequently desired in order to study their structural characteristics and attributes by means of (structural) properties inherited by tensor products from the involved spaces. If an ideal \({\mathcal U} = {\mathcal U}^{\mathrm{min}}\) holds isometrically, in many cases it is possible to exhibit such a representation and, as the operators of \({\mathcal U}^{\mathrm{min}}\) can may be approximated by finite type operators, one can take advantage of this representation to obtain certain properties for \({\mathcal U}\) from the spaces where the operators are defined. Dealing with spaces with different properties such as existence of Schauder bases, separability, the Radon-Nikodým and Asplund properties, the authors establish conditions to obtain several coincidences as above and give applications for extendible and Pietsch integral multilinear operators. They also establish coincidence results of the same nature for ideals of homogeneous polynomials. This paper is closely related to [\textit{D. Carando} and the first author, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 375, No. 2, 553--565 (2011; Zbl 1221.46020)], establishing a multilinear approach to the paper [\textit{D. R. Lewis}, Lect. Notes Math. 604, 57--66 (1977; Zbl 0376.46044)].
