Let \((A,m)\) be a local ring. For a parameter ideal \(Q\) in \(A\), let \(I=Q:m^2\) denote the quasi-socle ideal. The paper under review considers the problem as to when \(Q\) is a reduction of \(I\). The following result is proved. Assume that \((A,m)\) be a local Gorenstein ring with \(\text{dim} A > 0\) and multiplicity \(\text{e}_m(A) \geq 3\). Then \(m^2I=m^2Q\) and \(I^3=QI^2\). Moreover, the associated graded ring \(G(I)=\bigoplus_{n \geq 0} I^n/I^{n+1}\) and the fiber cone \(F(I)=\bigoplus_{n \geq 0}I^n/mI^n\) are both Cohen-Macaulay rings. Hence, if \(\text{dim} A \geq 3\), then the Rees algebra \(R(I)=\bigoplus_{n \geq 0} I^n\) is also a Cohen-Macaulay ring.
