The authors start from the \(L_{p}\)-John ellipsoids due to \textit{E. Lutwak} et al. [Duke Math. J. 104, No. 3, 375--390 (2000; Zbl 0974.52008)] and their properties and applications. They extend this kind of objects by defining and studying \((p,q)\)-John ellipsoids and studying them. For defining this type of ellipsoids, they consider the following optimization problem: let \(0<p\leq q\) with \(q=p+r\), \(r \geq 0\). For a convex body \(K \subseteq \mathbb{R}^{n}\) that contain the origin in its interior and a compact star-shaped body about the origin \(Q\subseteq \mathbb{R}^{n}\) find an ellipsoid \(E\), among all origin-symmetric ellipsoids, which solves the following constrained maximization problem: \(\max_{E\in\mathcal{E}^{n}}|E|\), subject to the following constraint on the normalized \((p,q)\)-dual mixed volume \(\overline{\widetilde{V}}_{p,q}(K,E,Q)\leq 1\). The dual problem is also considered. It is proved in this paper that there is an unique solution to this problem. This solution is called the \((p,q)\)-John ellipsoid. An analog of the John's inclusion theorem and Ball's volume-ratio inequality for \((p,q)\)-John ellipsoids are proved. Also, the authors prove a connection between the isotropy of measures and the characterization of \((p,q)\)-John ellipsoids.
