Given a measure space \((D,\Sigma,\mu)\) and two Banach spaces \(X\), \(Y\) with elements being real or complex \(\mu\)-measurable functions defined on \(D\), the set \(\mathcal{M}(X,Y)\) of all \textit{multipliers} from \(X\) to \(Y\) consists of all \(\mu\)-measurable functions \(u\) defined on \(D\), such that \(uf\in Y\) for all \(f\in X\). In case that the linear operator \(M_u:X\rightarrow Y\) given by \(M_u(f):=uf\) for an \(u\in\mathcal{M}(X,Y)\) is continuous, it is called the \textit{multiplication operator} from \(X\) to \(Y\) with symbol \(u\). The space of functions of bounded \(p\)-variation, \(p\geq1\) in the sense of Wiener, denoted by \(WBV_p\), is composed of all real functions \(f\) defined on \([0,1]\) such that \[ \sup_{P\in\Pi}\mathrm{Var}_p^W(f,P)<\infty, \] where \(\Pi\) is the set of all partitions \(P\) of the interval \([0,1]\); that is \(P=\{t_0,t_1,...,t_n\}\), \(n\in\mathbb{N}\), with \(0=t_0<t_1<\dots<t_n=1\), and \[ \mathrm{Var}_p^W(f,P):=\Bigg(\sum_{k=1}^n\Big|f(t_k)-f(t_{k-1})\Big|^p\Bigg)^{1/p}. \] This is a Banach space with the norm \(\sup_{[0,1]}|f| + \sup_{P\in\Pi}\mathrm{Var}_p^W(f,P)\). This paper is a contribution to the study of \(\mathcal{M}(WBV_p,WBV_q)\), \(p,q\geq1\). The first result shows that if \(p>q\) then a multiplication operator \(M_u\) is never bijective. Then in terms of the zero set of \(u\), the authors provide characterizations of multiplication operators \(M_u\): \(\mathrm{(i)}\) having finite and closed range, \(\mathrm{(ii)}\) being compact, and \(\mathrm{(iii)}\) being Fredholm.
