Elements of quantum computation and quantum communication
This book is a comprehensive introduction to quantum computation. Written at the undergraduate level, the book requires only an undergraduate course in linear algebra. The intended audience for this book includes students from the fields of physics, computer science, and mathematics. For this wider audience, the author includes background information and details that are frequently overlooked in other introductory texts. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe topics covered by the book can be roughly divided into four areas: an overview of the main ideas of quantum computation, including background on models of computation and complexity classes, the mathematical tools of quantum computation with fully worked computational examples, quantum gates and algorithms and a section on error correction, teleportation and cryptography. Particular attention is given to the important topics of entanglement and Shor's algorithm. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe book motivates each topic by providing information about the historical development and biographies of key researchers in quantum computation. Each section also includes a suggested list of further reading (which should be accessible to the reader after completing the section). The suggested reading list focusing on open source articles that are easily accessible. The author also engages students with comics about common fallacies relating to the study of computation. The book also includes a large number of fully worked problems and examples. For the beginning student in quantum computation, the text is particularly useful for its breadth, background and computations. The book covers the basic topics in enough depth and detail for students to continue on to research papers. The book can also be used as a reference for the fully worked computational problems as they demonstrate the common computational techniques in quantum computation that are usually referred to without reference in journal articles.
