Geometry of regular Hessenberg varieties

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: Let mathfrakg be a complex semisimple Lie algebra. For a regular element x in mathfrakg and a Hessenberg space Hsubseteqmathfrakg, we consider a regular Hessenberg variety X(x,H) in the flag variety associated with mathfrakg. We take a Hessenberg space so that X(x,H) is irreducible, and show that the higher cohomology groups of the structure sheaf of X(x,H) vanish. We also study the flat family of regular Hessenberg varieties, and prove that the scheme-theoretic fibers over the closed points are reduced. We include applications of these results as well.

Let \(\mathfrak{g}\) be a complex semisimple Lie algebra and \(H\subseteq \mathfrak{g}\) an Hessenberg space. Let \(X(x,H)\), \(x\in \mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{reg}}\), be a regular Hessenberg variety in the flag variety associated with \(\mathfrak{g}\). A major result proved in this paper is that \(H^i(X(x,H),\mathcal {O}_{X(x,H)})=0\) for all \(i>0\). Hence the Picard group of \(X(x,H)\) is isomorphic to singular cohomology group \(H^2(X(x,H),\mathbb {Z})\). They prove that their classes in the K-theory of coherent sheaves on the homogeneous space \(G/B\) do not depend on \(x\). They define inside \((G/B)\times \mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{reg}}\) the global version of the regular Hessenberg varieties and prove the reducedness of all fibers at \(x\in \mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{reg}}\) of the projection onto \(\mathfrak{g}_{\mathrm{reg}}\).
