The topic of this article is the (local) description of the first Poisson cohomology in a neighbourhood of an embedded singular symplectic leaf \(S\). Given a Poisson manifold \((M,\Psi)\), the authors find coordinates about \(S\), such that \(\Psi = \Psi_H + \Psi_V\), where \(\Psi_H\) is a horizontal bivector field of constant rank (equal to \(\dim(S)\)) and \(\Psi_V\) is the Poisson bivector field vanishing on \(S\) which is given by Weinstein's splitting theorem. Using this decomposition, the first Poisson cohomology about \(S\) is described as a direct sum of a tangential and a transversal part, generalising the analogous global result for regular Poisson structures. The authors then use this decomposition to provide conditions for the vanishing of the first Poisson cohomology about a singular symplectic leaf. One case they examine is the one where the isotropy algebra of \(S\) is semisimple of compact type. Using Conn's normal form theorem, they show that if \(S\) is compact and simply connected, and its normal bundle is trivial, then coordinates can be found such that every Poisson vector field is Hamiltonian about \(S\).
