For the energy supercritical defocusing/focusing nonlinear wave equation on \(\mathbb R^{3+1}\), \(\square u\pm u^7=0\), the global existence of smooth solutions belonging to a class of large data is investigated. Section two is devoted to computing smooth self-similar solutions, by a reduction to a nonlinear Sturm-Liouville problem. One considers the interior light-cone and the exterior light-cone. In the third section, global smooth solutions for the above equation, which are large in a suitable sense, are constructed, and in the forth section one succeeds to built an exact solution. The fifth and sixth sections are devoted to larger global solutions in the defocusing case and to global smooth solutions for the defocusing equation. The paper ends with a discussion on local solvability of the perturbative equation.
