    The authors prove \(L^ p\)-boundedness of singular Radon transforms \[ \mathcal Rf(x):=\text{p.~v.} \int\omega(x,t)\,f\big(\Gamma(x,t)\big)\frac{dt}t \] and maximal operators \[ \mathcal Mf(x):=\sup_{0<h<\varepsilon} \frac1{2h}\int_{-h}^{h}\big| f\big(\Gamma(x,t)\big)\big| \,dt \] for variable curves \(\Gamma: t\mapsto\Gamma(x,t)\), \(t\in[-c_0,c_0]\), in the plane. Moreover, they derive a diffeomorphism invariant extension of the result of [\textit{H. Carlsson, M. Christ, A. Córdoba, J. Duoandikoetxea, J. L. Rubio de Francia, J. Vance, S. Wainger}, and \textit{D. Weinberg}, Bull. Am. Math. Soc., New Ser. 14, 263--267 (1986; Zbl 0588.44007)] for translation invariant averages along convex curves.
