Let \(\Omega\) be a simply connected subset of \(\mathbb{R}^2\) whose boundary \(\partial \Omega\) is formed by a polygonal curve. Given a function \(f\in C(\Omega)\), the evaluation of the integral \(\mathcal{I}(f)=\int_\Omega f(x,y)d\Omega\) is carried out by cubature rules \(\mathcal{I}(Sf)=\int_\Omega Sf(x,y)d\Omega\), where \(S\) is a quasi-interpolant operator defined on \(\Omega\). The aim of this paper is the study of a type of rules whose construction is based on spline quasi-interpolants in the space of quadratic Powell-Sabin splines on nonuniform triangulations of \(\Omega\). On this issue the authors cite the article by \textit{P. Dierckx} [Comput. Aided Geom. Des. 15, No. 1, 61--78 (1997; Zbl 0894.68152)]. These quasi-interpolants are described in some detail in the paper and come from a previous work by \textit{C. Manni} and \textit{P. Sablonnière} [Adv. Comput. Math. 26, No. 1--3, 283--304 (2007; Zbl 1116.65008)]. The essential ingredient of the design relies on using a specific refinement of a generic triangulation. As result, optimal convergence orders are obtained for some of these cubature rules. Finally, numerical examples are given for the comparison with other cubature formulas.
