The authors study the following question: given a purely unrectifiable compact set \(E\) in \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\), is it possible to find elliptic operators \(L=\mbox{div } A\nabla\) on \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\setminus K\) for which the corresponding elliptic measures are absolutely continuous (or proportional) to the Hausdorff measure of \(E\)? It is well known that a purely unrectifiable set cannot support a harmonic measure which is absolutely continuous with respect to the Hausdorff measure of the set. In the main result of the paper, the authors construct elliptic operators of divergence form \(L=\mbox{div } a\nabla\) in the complement of the four corners Cantor set \(K\) in \(\mathbb{R}^{2}\), whose elliptic measure is essentially proportional to the one-dimensional Hausdorff measure on \(K\), where \(a\) is a continuous function satisfying \(C^{-1}\leq a\leq C\) in \(\mathbb{R}^{2}\setminus K\). In the proof, the desired Green function \(G\) is constructed and a function \(a\) is obtained such that \(G\) is \(L\)-harmonic. Finally, the authors show that their construction works for non-fractal variants of \(K\), obtained by independently rotating the squares involved in the construction of \(K\).
