The paper investigates the Griffiths group of a product \(C\times S\) of a surface \(S\) and a curve \(C\) defined over a field \(k\) and contains essentially two main results. The first result shows that there is a surjection over this Griffiths group from the quotient given by Albanese kernel of the base change of \(S\) to the function field of the \(C\) modulo the Albanese kernel of \(S\). Thanks to this theorem, the class in this quotient of Albanese kernels, defined by an appropriate modification of the graph of an hyperplane section \(C\subset S\) varying in a Lefschetz pencil, provides an element of the Griffiths group. The second result states that for infinitely many members of the pencil, the class in actually non zero, as soon as \(k\) is of characteristic \(0\), the geometric genus of S is positive, and \(k\) is large or S is ``of motivated abelian type''. The techniques used to prove the results come from pure motives for the first result and variations of Tannakian groups in families for the second one.
