\textit{S. K. Donaldson} [J. Differ. Geom. 59, No. 3, 479--522 (2001; Zbl 1052.32017)] proved that a constant scalar curvature Kähler metric in a Kähler class of an ample line bundle can be approximated by a sequence of balanced metrics when the automorphism group is discrete. \textit{R. J. Berman} and \textit{D. Witt Nyström} [``Complex optimal transport and the pluripotential theory of Kähler-Ricci solitons'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1401.8264}] later proved that, for Fano manifolds with a possibly non-discrete automorphism group, the existence of Kähler-Ricci solitons implies the existence of a sequence of relative anticanonically balanced metrics converging weakly (modulo automorphisms) to the Kähler-Ricci soliton. The paper under review improves their result by proving the smooth convergence as opposed to the weak convergence of currents.
