The authors prove that if some finite powers of two unconditional bases are permutatively equivalent, then these two unconditional bases are permutatively equivalent. This solves a problem of \textit{P.~G. Casazza} and \textit{N.~J. Kalton} [Isr. J. Math. 103, 141--175 (1998; Zbl 0939.46009); Stud. Math. 133, No. 3, 275--294 (1999; Zbl 0939.46010)]. The proof is short and elegant and essentially combines the Hall-König lemma with an important result of Wojtowicz. The idea of the proof is then used to build a general framework to study the uniqueness of unconditional bases of quasi-Banach spaces. Several examples are tested and new examples of quasi-Banach spaces with unique unconditional basis (up to permutation) are verified.
